Writ Filed at Supreme Court Against Travel Ban on Former PM Oli and Ex-Home Minister Lekhak

Kathmandu, Oct.28 : A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court against the decision to freeze the passports and impose travel restrictions on former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

Advocate Dr. Prem Raj Silwal filed the writ, naming the Office of the Prime Minister, the Gauribahadur Karki-led Gen-Z Investigation Commission, and the Ministry of Home Affairs as defendants. The commission had earlier decided to freeze the passports of Oli, Lekhak, former Home Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadi, former Chief of the National Investigation Department Hutaraj Thapa, and then Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Chhabilal Rijal, also restricting them from leaving the Kathmandu Valley.

The writ argues that the commission’s decision violates the fundamental right to live with dignity, the Constitution of Nepal, and international human rights laws. It further claims that the decision was politically motivated and seeks an order from the Supreme Court to annul the decision and prevent such restrictions in the future.
