5 veterans honored with Skill Hero Award on Closing Ceremony of Skill Week 2024

April 08, 2024 : Skill Week 2024 ended with a splendid closing ceremony amidst a remarkable gathering held at The Soaltee Kathmandu on Monday, in the presence of renowned entrepreneurs, government diplomats, and 100+ aspirant enthusiasts. This was the fifth edition of Skill Week organized by Glocal After School, an entity of Glocal Pvt Ltd with an aim to collaborate with Industry, Educators, and Government to engage and promote extensive skilling opportunities and showcase emerging skills. The ceremony had the presence of Honorable. Indira Rana Magar, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.

Skill Week is a week filled with events, creativity, skills, inspirations, and insights. This was a week earmarked for conducting workshops related to diverse skills, skill-focused competitions, skill shows and exhibitions, the learning hub, and sessions along with several entertainment components making this an infotainment week honoring skill. The fifth edition of skill week was held from 31st March to 8th April, and different experts from these fields were invited to impart their knowledge to the curious youth.

Skill Week comprised of a series of Workshops, Competitions, Exhibitions, Job & Career Fair, Food and Games, Case Study Presentation, Music, and Concerts along with Fun elements. It was basically exploring the world of Skills along with a fun fiesta.

The event highlighted five distinct skill areas i.e. Art and Culture, Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Hospitality, Science and Technology & Apprenticeship. Therefore, five veterans were honored with the award of Skill Hero by Glocal After School.

For the first pillar i.e. Art & Culture, Mr. Madan Krishna Shrestha and Mr. Hari Bansha Acharya (Maha Jodi), two famous veteran actors were awarded for devoting their career in bringing forth the various problems of the society as it changes. Their straight and charming humor on the Nepalese life have entertained every age and this duo has dedicated more than two decades of their life in creating a signature style of awareness campaign through comedy and heart touching sentiments in their movies, television series and plays. Likewise, Mr. Narottam Aryal, Executive Director at King’s College was awarded as Skill Hero in the category Entrepreneurship. He is a passionate educator working to bring together community, education and entrepreneurship. He strongly believes that real learning happens when a learner gets out of the building, plays with a real problem, reflects the learning, discusses it with the peer learners and applies the learning into practice. In addition to this, for the category – Tourism & Hospitality, Ms. Chhaya Sharma, who is the Founder & Chairperson of Nepal College of Travel and Tourism Management, the first college in Nepal that provides training on tourism was awarded. She is also the Founder of Kaasthamandap Vidyalaya School and SAARC Chamber Crafts Village, a retail outlet for handicrafts from the SAARC region. Rooting for women empowerment, she founded the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Associations of Nepal (FWEAN) and served as its President from 2011-2013. Also, in the category Science & Technology, Dr. Bhagawan Koirala was awarded. Dr. Koirala is a Cardiothoracic surgeon, professor and Social worker. He is best known for leading the team of Nepalese surgeons that began Open-heart surgery in Nepal.

This year, we introduced Apprenticeship theme, and in the category Apprenticeship, Ms. Puspa Chaudhary was awarded. Ms. Chaudhary is a qualified chef who has demonstrated her skills & career in hotel management, displaying exceptional dedication to learning during industry-based training. As a young woman from the Tharu community, she is challenging the stereotype that women are only confined to cooking within the household by showcasing her ability to serve numerous guests in the hotel.

Keeping up with the legacy of welcoming the country’s most influential CEOs/entrepreneurs to inspire the enthusiastic entrepreneurial minds of the country, Glocal Pvt. Ltd. has successfully concluded the ninth edition of ‘CEO Unplugged’ in 2024 on the same day at The Soaltee Kathmandu. With the main theme of ‘Today Meets Tomorrow’, 7 reputed entrepreneurs, 2 exceptional moderators, bureaucrats, and diplomats of the country marked their presence as the speakers on this year’s CEO Unplugged. More than 100 aspirants participated in this highly anticipated event to network, learn, and share their notions with the prominent entrepreneurs of the country.

There were two-panel discussions, titled The World of Work – Building a Resilient Future for Youth in Nepal & Strategic Alliance for Greater Impact. The first panel explored into the intricate landscape of sustaining Nepal’s young workforce by forging robust public-private partnerships and engaging civil society organizations to collectively address systemic barriers hindering youth employment, thereby fostering inclusive growth and steering Nepal towards a resilient and prosperous future. The second panel talked about how working together can make a big difference in solving problems. The discussion also looks at how to make collaboration & partnerships even better so they can develop best practices as a part of strategic alliance.
